Multiplexing 5 digits with a total 26mA for P0 means that "88888" will be an average 0.74mA per segment. i.e. 35 segments on.

Ok. The whole chip can sink 71mA if you spread the segments across several ports. OTOH, P1,P2,P3 have a maximum 15mA per port.

Yes. The multiplex will work. It will not be very bright.

Other 8051 variants have better ratings.
