You may be OK with the 6N138. I calculated the opto LED current for the case of two daisy chained like circuits and with 600 ohms (3X 200 ohm) in series from 5V the opto gets ~5mA. Should be OK with 0.5 to 1mA of load current in the collector of the output as with the 10K pullup you have now and the possible 5K you may change to if you add a second 'HC573.
