if you can't go to 4 layers

Design for an industrial environment! Everything should have a solid ground plane, the faster the circuitry the more demanding.

The oft missed point a wire/trace is NOT a wire/trace. It is inductors and capacitors radiating to everything.

You can go cheap and accept errors from noise etc or you can spend the required money (be that weeks fiddeling with the layout or a 4 layer board) and make it work.

Remember "cheap, fast, good, pick any two"
