I would not be afraid of relying on it quite a lot, I just don't find it comfortable working with it in most of the cases (as usually, this depends on the particular task).

You might have across a peculiar limitation of a particular simulator, but yoiu can 1.fix it yourself (you've said in your post above, how) 2.suggest to the simulator vendor to fix it and then get the fixed version.

Still, this is a minor shortcoming and I believe the simulator is quite faithful to the reality otherwise.
