If you google a bit, you can see two methods that are often used.

Nevertheless, there's, as always is, a big difference between a scheme that works somehow and a scheme that is foolproof against misconnections, shorts, etc., etc. So, what might look simple at first sight can become unsolvable, if your product must be fully surge-, burst- and ESD-resistant...
