#166773 - For which applications? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
From my survey's of end customers and engineering customers... there is a strong demand for PEN drive (USB stick), because they can stick the pen driver in to "just about" any PC running MS Vista/XP or Linux and the Pen drive enumerates as an extra hard driver.
Does the survey also indicate how much the customers are willing to pay for this extra convenience? Not only does talking to a USB device require extra hardware and/or a much larger microprocessor than necessary, there are also additional power requirements (USB pen drives can be power hogs, they're allowed to draw up to 500 mW), which, in case of mobile devices, translates into shorter battery life or larger batteries. And card readers are cheap. They're <$10, maybe even <$5. And with a card reader, the media work exactly like a USB pen drive. |
