IIRC, there once was an inverting version of the '574. I believe it was a '576, though I am unsure of whether it was offered in HC. That would be a solution, though, wouldn't it? You'd have to invert the data you write to it, but it would start with its outputs low where the '574's outputs are high.
The other option would be to use the tristate outputs with a pulldown, using the same signal to provide the GND to the pulldown resistors to enable the tristate register outputs. RE |
