I've no idea how well they manage to get the PCIe connectors to perform, but the requirements are fearsomely tight on impedance and pair length matching. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head, but the spec for pair length difference was something like 0.005 inch. As for impedance, I just told my layout guy what the goal was and he used the tool built into the layout package to come up with the trace separation and copper width for the layer stack we had agreed with the PCB manufacturer.
