#184894 - It sounds like a repackaging of Laplink Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Microsoft have a very long history of buying solutions from different companies and repackage with their OS. Even MS-DOS itself was originally bought and repackaged.
I never used MS-DOS v6.22, but I guess Microsoft bought the right to repackage some of the Laplink software with MS-DOS and Windows. Yes, I have seen the Direct Cable Connection in a number of Windows versions. Today, the technology have moved to the use of special USB-to-USB cables. The Laplink link I posted do show such cables, but there are many other manufactuers who also have USB-to-USB cables. For people who have a choice, a FW-to-FW cable is an even better alternative. 400 Mbit/s of lovely bandwidth, making the original 100Mbit/s Ethernet cables feel narrow. And pumping significantly more data than the 480Mbit/s USB 2.0 standard can manage. |
