Until some time ago I always received an invoice for the VAT from UPS when I had received an order from DigiKey. I was curious to find out why these didn't come any more and found this in DigiKey's Terms & Conditions:

Save This Code
"For Digi-Key Business-to-Business shipments where Digi-Key has been provided a validated VAT number, 
Digi-Key will import shipments into Cologne, Germany (DDP); and under the Intracommunity Supply rules 
according to article 138 (1) of the Council Directive 2006/112/EC, Digi-Key forwards shipments (CPT) to 
your destination."


So, that's another trade barrier removed :-)
