TI do a free version of their CodeComposer Studio that is not time or size limited, but locked to one of their Stellaris devkits. Code Composer --- LOL I have a full copy of TI's Code Composer here that a client bought for a project that got canned. That was in support of some DSP we were going to use to image process behind a CMOS image sensor. That was about a 2.7K spent for nothing back about 10-11 years ago. I went ahead with the CrossWorks personal license and got that installed and activated. The folks at Rowland seem to be very helpful so far. One thing you do not get with the Personal License is any support for the package. You are pretty much on your own. An initial look at the IDE seems to point to an IDE that has everything but the kitchen sink plugged into it !!! Well I am generally interested in taking a look at some very low cost boards to learn on. There are a number of STM32 type boards on eBay (with color LCDs and touch screens) for about $25. One of those would be fun to play with. Although the one I purchased came with its LCD cracked due to insufficient packaging -- so I await the replacement that the seller promised to send. In the mean time I purchased another similar one from another seller in Singapore that claims the info CD that comes with it is in English as opposed to the first that was all 100% Chinese including file names inside the archives on the CD. Buying these low cost things does incur a long wait time though (2 to 3 weeks). Next I'll have to figure out the cheapest workable debug adapter. Speed is not really of the essence in the learning mode. CrossWorks claims to support quite a number of different ones. Michael Karas |
