#180715 - I've used them twice. Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Andy,
I've used triple-nickles twice. Once, back when I was still in undergraduate school, I and a classmate represented our school (McNeese State University) in the IEEE Design Challenge competition. We used 555s to control a simulated traffic light at an intersection. We placed third behind the U.S. Air Force Academy (2nd) and Brown University (I think ?) from Arkansas (1st). The second time I used them was in the early stages of development for the ion trap I built for my doctoral dissertation. I used a chain of 555s to control the sequence of events while I developed the circuitry that actually affected those events. Once the peripheral circuits were done I replaced the 555s with a digital control circuit that I controlled with a computer. Joe |
