#177435 - Hard to get parts Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I have found that parts are getting harder to get in certain areas. One of the areas includes GLCDs as they just upgrade too often and do not supply the old. I have found that if you want to design around the GLCD, prototype using the GLCD and once the prototype is successful, buy the quantity that you think will fulfill the need of production. Do not look at something costing so much money, but think of something producing so much money for you. Once your supply runs out or you have finished building your supply start on upgrading your own design with a newer (G)LCD to keep up with the technology. Another idea is the engineer's perspective in that you can conform to any (G)LCD based on the size and the controller used. This is much too inefficient, but will lend you to creating a very nice library or collection of software that will control the (G)LCDs. From a business perspective one will lose money by the time wasted creating this collection. However, the dot pitch of the (G)LCDs are constantly changing to smaller dimension effectively giving the designer better resolution. Mechanically speaking, this can be troublesome as one needs to create a newer enclosure for the (G)LCD. The main goal is to pipeline your work and you will soon find out that you will naturally accumulate software for different controllers/(G)LCDs. |
