#176962 - ADSR
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Per Westermark said:
remember that many instruments have sound that slowly declines

Real instruments have a complex amplitude envelope often characterised by "Attack, Decay, Sustain, and Release" - or "ADSR" for short:

But it's not just the amplitude that varies - the tonal quality (harmonic structure) also varies.

It's the detail to which all these characteristics - and more - are modelled that distinguishes cheap electronic instruments from expensive ones!
