#172447 - Trouble with academia, me ranting |
Ive been working for a year now with a group from a UK university who set up a private company based on their experiance of hardware based image processing, because my boss somehow got the idea that they were better placed to solve a particular problem and he got involved in some DTI scheme to improve relationships between academia and industry and set up profit sharing bla bla bla.......
Anyway after about a year of me tearing my hair out trying to introduce them to the real world they have come up with a solution which runs on multiple processors in an FPGA and they keep showing me the results of matlab simulations and I keep saying yes it is wonderous but in the real world we cannot give you over half of the FPGA to play with and we don't want it running in processors we want it implemented directly in hardware, but they cannot or will not accept these limitations so I have told them to go away and not darken our doorstep again, which is a shame because they are teaching future generations of engineers and the don't understand how to make a design commercialy viable and meet a customers requirements and they have lost out on a lot of money. Anyway with that and a lot of other messing us about I told our MD what i thought of the whole idea of dealling with these people and probably got myself into trouble with our deirector of engineering but honestly shooting them all is too good for them if you ask me. There you go I feel better now |
