Their free C compiler (upto 64K) is very very good in my opinion. I would agree. The Renesas compiler was good. The debugger that worked with the USB pod that you had to purchase was also OK. If I recall correctly, things like single stepping was painfully slow. (In my opinion not as good as Atmel's JTAG-ICE or SiLabs USB debugger with on-chip support). At the time I was using the H8 family part I never got to the point of trying to make a boot loader to support in-application reprogramming. During that time a single code base was being supported across some H8's and some AVR's. Soon after I got involved we purged the multi-manufacturer MCU concept and focused entirely on the AVR family. It was after that switch that I prepared a robust assembler language boot loader for the AVR microcontrollers. Michael Karas |
