I want to configure an FPGA (Altera Cyclone II) using JTAG programming method. I have done a design using a microcontroller and succedded in configuring Xilinx FPGA. I want to do the same thing fo Altera devices.
Has anybody done that previously? The point where I am stuck is, I don't know the internal file formats of Altera files (e.g. rbf or sof files etc.) Here's what you do. 1) Order up one of Altera's JTAG programming dongles, whatever it's called ("ByteBlaster" or some such; the website will tell you). 2) Add the appropriate header connector to your board. Eval board docs will have this info. So will the docs for the JTAG dongle. 3) Install the Altera software that's used to program their devices over JTAG. 4) Program your device. 5) Profit! -a |

Don't Altera have guidance on this? | 01/01/70 00:00
Lots of it! Look for "STAPL" | 01/01/70 00:00

Of course ... you could ASK them ... | 01/01/70 00:00
