M, what you observe is very probably an undersampling error, an artefact which can result from a beat made of frames containing subsequent sequences of a non periodic signal. Observing a fast non periodic signal by a digital scope with a slow sample rate setting will result in entirely trashy plots! Especially if the triggering isn't perfectly working. So, forget this 5ms deviation time setting...
