Heheh. This works in the new site version as well. Which I'm using, by the way. I'm using the new forum version myself and trying to run into all these problems myself before I take it public. I just decided to implement the bbcode aspect in both the public and new system so that messages posted in either format in either version of the site would render properly in both.
