#152369 - nothing is perfect...
Responding to: ???'s previous message
... neither is Bray's. But, only a few windows programs in general can keep up with receiving data at high rates (e.g. 115k2 with no spaces between successive characters) - IIRC, hyperterminal fails spectacularly in this respect, too.

This is why I use 3 different terminal emulator programs, all of them free:

  • Terminal by Br@y, for the rudimentary ("go-nogo") serial line debugging, where a few data is transmitted to and fro, but handshake lines manipulation and hex/bin display and quick macros sending and automatic macros sending and autoRTS (with questionable timing, though) are all bonuses, unseen elsewhere
  • realterm, which is the only one I know capable of full-speed logging, including WORKING handshake (which appears to be nontrivial to implement in the Windows environment, either). It is also the only one handling flawlessly the "high" COM numbers so far - I have a few flawed virtual COM installations (as a testcase - they are not unlikely at the unaware customer but not easy to get rid of them) and most of the terminals fail to "autodetect" and/or open the ports above these flawed ones. On the other hand it has a very weird and not very easy to use user interface, and has a flaw (albeit documented, hence featurised ;-) ) in transmitting binary files - it skips each 0x1A...
  • Tera Term as a decent terminal with good scripting ability for general-purpose work and (binary) files upload

I don't telnet/ssh at all, though. Those who do, will undoubtedly come up a different list.

YMMV.
