#146828 - Never exceed the voltage rating! Responding to: ???'s previous message |

I need to connect a push to on switch rated for 230V AC / 0.5Amp to a supply of 415V AC.
. . . The only saving grace is that the current rating I require with 415 V AC is less than 100mA. Dear Raghunathan, do never exceed the voltage rating of a switch! If a voltage higher than the voltage rating of the switch is applied to the switch, the voltage may be able to "jump" the open contacts of the switch. This would make it impossible to control the circuit in which the switch is used!! This has nothing to do with the current rating. So, not exploiting the full current range does not give you a higher maximum voltage. Kai |
