As I read it, they are not selling the readers, but using them to support their own consulting. I read said website said:
We provide readers for educational purposes only. as "we sell readers"; and said website said:
Although we have many achievements in non-invasive attacks for many microcontrollers, CPLDs and FPGAs we are not going to implement the results into end-user special readers. as "we sell readers only for some [of the lower-end] microcontrollers". Please note, that the "readers" are aimed at a group of microcontrollers which are usually used in the "garage" scale of business. They don't anticipate big profit from providing "consulting" for this sort of companies, so it makes sense to provide a "reader" for them. On the other hand, if they are able to read out CPLDs and higher-end microcontrollers, it makes more sense to keep that capability "in house", it is more likely they will get paid $$$$$ for this kind of "consulting". I am really curious how this really is; but, unfortunately, I am not brave enough to write them for a quote... JW |
