#140272 - Maybe yes, maybe no

The reason for using flowcharts is usually to take advantage of the 2-dimensional graphical representation over the essentially 1-dimensional text - thus it seems a tad backwards (to me, at least) to use a text representation to create a flowchart!

Maybe so, but it's quick! At least for me, it's much easier to type in a few lines of pseudocode than it would be to do the pointing and clicking and dragging that would be necessary to create the equivalent flowchart using a GUI. And if a change is needed, it's much, much, much, much (!) faster and easier to edit the pseudocode than it would be to rearrange the graphical representation by hand.

The other huge advantage of the text-to-diagram translation is that the program guarantees logical equivalence between the diagram and the pseudocode. Once you've convinced your human, I-understand-2D-pictures-better-than-1D-text brain that the diagram is correct, you can use the pseudocode as a template for your HLL code with perfect confidence that your code is going to match the diagram. (Assuming, that is, that you design your logic before you write your code. I heard somewhere that that's a good idea. (c:)

Seems a bit like drawing a schematic by typing-in the netlist!

Nah, it's more like designing hardware with VHDL or Verilog.
