Hello friends,
Maybe someone can give advise. I have DSL (ADSL) internet connection in office. Network in office is connected to internet trough PC , which plays as router. Connection is permanent and unlimited, montly subscription fee. At home i have no subscription/access and i don't want spend money at this time. On other hand - phone connection from home to office is cheap after 9pm. So i'm searching for software for two computers: - at home side i have modem and will access office computer trough other modem. - in office some software must open modem and connect me to internet. Is this possible and cheap? regards, Stefan I have been doing this sort of remote access for years. At first, I did this under Solaris using its included PPP daemon. Later, I did this under Windows (both 2000 and 2003) using the included Routing and Remote Access service. The purpose of this setup has two purposes. First, it serves as an out-of-band administration mechanism in the event I need to reboot any downed network equipment remotely. Secondly, it provides convenient dial-in access to both my private network and the Internet when traveling where other connectivity is not available. It really works quite well for these purposes. That said, it's not a particularly fulfilling connectivity experience, and certainly not something I'd want to make a habit of using from home on a daily basis; the marginal savings over DSL just wouldn't be worth it. Moreover, I don't have a digital line to host the dial-in modem, so 56K connections are out of the question. --Sasha Jevtic |
