#137527 - In that acse

I think Mike was referring to number of posts displayed in a long thread, rather than the number of threads displayed on the main forum page. This can be cut down ("Max. messages to list within thread "), but only in flat mode (in traditional mode maybe the "beginning" of the "tree" could be hidden beyond a click, although that might be tricky to implement smartly...)

Gotcha. You're right with the solution.

How many people use the "tree" mode? I'm tempted to get rid of it altogether. I initially thought after I wrote the flat mode that I'd just use it long enough to test it. But I ended up staying with flat mode and it's the more common approach in forum software these days.

Also, on a similar note, the main forum page could display only threads having new messages.

Yes, I suppose it could. :)

Of course I have no idea how much work would be needed for this one (and I am afraid, the answer is "substantially more than I can afford"... )

It wouldn't be that bad. It already flags threads with new messages so it wouldn't be too difficult to make it not display the rest.

Still, probably nothing happening before May 1st. :)
