Most assemblers have dropped the 40 pin PDIP packages. And the PLCC packages are not far behind
so, for the amateur of tomorrow the first thing to learn is how to deal with SMT. Maybe a 'cottage industry' of mounting SMT chips on DIL sized PCBs will spring up. The problem then will be flying wires and the faster risetimes of tomorrows chips. I wish that the knowledge that a wire is not "a wire" would become universal. Rrik |
