#135801 - Protecting a triac
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Hello Jon

I think taht the primary way of protecting a triac is overrating. Stageligtning dimmercircuits are often made with triacs rated for 800V and 50A when used in a std. 230V 10A circuit - rated for aprox. 2 kW load. The short circuit protection was 5x20 mm fuses - these days its often dinrail automatic fuses as used in dommestic wirring. And its quite rare to change a triac in such a unit.

So try with a 10A 600V triac next time.
