#135751 - Assymetry
Responding to: ???'s previous message
I too came to the same conclusion many years ago regarding triacs - the 'proper' fuses cost more than the device they are protecting. With light dimmers, when a filament bulb blows, it creates an arc that draws some current. This normally fries the triac. As for what happens with a solenoid - as it normally doesn't go open circuit I can only assume you're getting voltages spikes either from the mains or from the solenoid when switching. The other is assymetry from a failing opto or an opto not driven with enough led current.

Snubbers have the positive side effect of limiting voltage spikes, so more snubbing can have a positive effect.
