When the original Fahrenheit temperature scale was established, the temperature difference between two events was set at 100 degrees. What occurs at 0 degrees F and what occurs at 100 degrees F?
What I have heard/seen is that 0F is the freezing point of mercury (as used in the thermometers of that day) and that Mr Fahrenheit was excited or a bit under the weather that day and then - since this is a family forum - I will leave it to you as to imagine where the thermometer was to get 100F.
