Of course people who worked 'fixing' the bug will tell you that nothing happend becuase of all their hard work whereas most people will tell you that nothing happend because it was never a real problem in the first place.

Ah yes, I remember the audits and questionaires...
Everybody in upper management all of a sudden was aware that there are actual "techies" in the company...

And then restrictions on holidays and leave... We were even summioned to be work at the 31-12-1999, al night. Just in case. And as I expected, on 31/12 nothing, absolutely nothing happened...

Talking about a desillusion.... :-)

regards

I managed to avoid the late night duty. I was kind of amused that we rented a huge Cat genset and parked it outside our building complete with massive utility interconnect. All done, just in case someone needed an emergency patch on 1/1/2000.

I did get to wander around with a portable y2k bug on new year's day. I have a WWVB sync'ed clock that couldn't cope. It corrected itself the next day. Made for a good gag.

But the problem with second guessing Y2K is, you can't really know if we dodged a bullet or not. The prove a negative problem. Work got done, and nothing happened. This is a much better outcome than "IT apathy led to a financial market meltdown".
