The CJC is to compensate for the extra thermocouple that gets formed where you connect the 'real' thermocouple wires to something different. So you measure this 'cold junction' and subtract the small offset that it creates. As for having eight thermocouples - this is fairly common these days as most injection systems have per cylinder trim for spark and fueling. If it is a drag engine, the twist of the crank and camshaft causes big differences in the running of the cylinders, so EGT is used to quantify this and they have some means of compensating for it. |
