#121211 - gates vs clocks Responding to: ???'s previous message |

I know this has come up before, but not in the context of a TTL-workalike part.
I was looking at the sheet for an ST 74AC573, and find it has spec's that make no sense, references to a clock, which it doesn't have, and, of all things, for a part of this type, a maximal pulse width for the clock, which, of course, is a gate and not a clock in this case. When talking about setup and hold times, you're interested in the relationship between a data signal and an edge of a control signal. It's common for that control signal to be called a "clock." In the case of a '573-type transparent latch, setup and hold times are given with respect to the falling edge of the latch enable. If you think about it, the falling edge of the latch enable is no different from the falling edge of a D flip-flop's clock. -a |
