It's the government that they wanted to keep out of the estate, 3rd party lawsuits aside. Until the sentence, including any fines, etc, is imposed, there's no conviction, despite the guilty verdict, so fines, etc, can't be imposed. As a result, that conviction can't be used as a basis for other attacks on the estate. Of course, nothing keeps the lawyers from getting their share ... <sigh> ...
Nonetheless, at least he won't go to his grave as a billionaire at the expense of all the people he's cheated. There's a special place in hell for people like him, and Bernie Evers (WorldCom) and others of their ilk. RE |
