From what I heard on the radio last Friday, Lay's death vacates the conviction and, since he was never sentenced, expunges his record, such as it is, of any conviction. Since the sentence was never imposed, the government has no means by which to seize his remaining estate, estimated, now, at some $US8E6.
I wasn't aware that he'd been fined so much as to reduce his estate to so little. It was probably the cost of his legal defense that did it. RE |
