by law a bus is not allowed to operate if the sign is dead
Really? Where? What is the purpose? (pure curiosity) The ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) state that a bus sign is to be readable from 200 ft by a person with limited vision (I forget right now what the limit is). A side effect of this is that if there is no sign the person with the limited vision can not read it. A true anecdote: to fulfil the ADA requirements, a sign has a certain brightness. By California law that brightness is more than allowed. When the cops in some counties in CA get bored, they start writing tickets to buses because the signs are "too bright". If the sign intensity was reduced, the transit authorities would lose the monetary support they get from the feds because of not adhering to the ADA. I can give similar anecdotes from other countries, government is government wherever you are. Erik |
