#116558 - How do I build a transporter Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The question is do you really want to build a star trek transporter? quite apart from the astronomical amount of power that you would need to be able to run one and the impossibility of finding the precise location and velocity of every sub-atomic particle in whatever you want to send and rncoding that information in such a way that it could be transmitted in less than the lifetime of the universe. What always worried me was that Scotty who ran the thing looked like a recovering alcoholic most of the time and not someone who you really wanted driving the thing. And of course there is the question of what it is that comes out the other end, i mean is the original destroyed and a new one created at the same time? if that is the case then what are the legal implications ,what happens to your imortal soul? does it get jammed in the pipework, can you encode someones mental state? is a persons mental state represented only by the sum of the physical parts?
My physics teacher nearly ended up having a divorce over building a Maplin electronic organ, you can imagine what would happen with something like a transporter. |
