A 24 volt deep discharge battery and a rapid charger? It will be a bit big but it will certainly keep the motor happy.
I have seen this applied in a smaller scale such as a small check reader device that pulls the check into the reader and then quickly returns it. The whole unit is supplied with low current +5 volts. Inside is a small NiCad pack to supply the motor current. The battery trickle charges off the unit's 5 volt bus.
