The AT89S8253 has a hardware SPI. As do several other 8051 variants.

You can bit-bang an SPI Master fairly efficiently with an 8051.
Bit-banging a Slave is certainly possible but you will be limited for speed.

Only you know what you are going to throw at it. And whether you can afford to tie up the CPU in a tight loop or not.
