Yes, I think ST were deliberately gunning at the NXP LPC Expresso when setting the price of the STM32 Discovery board.

But, back to Steve's original point, this all goes to show that it is not expensive to get a fully-functional, ready-to-use 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0/3 kit!
