It will be easier to use an external amplifier to add a gain of 16 to the signal path instead of using the the internal attenuated reference. Two reasons....one because the signalling in the MCU is much more above the on-chip noise floor and.... two the external amplifier is much much easier to design into an area of your board optimized for low noise treatment of the analogue circuit.
