To greatly simplify the design of filter circuits and choosing the filter and capatitor values it can be very helpful to use ssoftware tool to provide support. One tool that is free and very useful is to download and install LT-Spice (also known as SwitcherCad) from the http://www.linear.com web site.

The above link also provides access to download a Filter Simulation tool which would be even more directly suited to low pass filter design.
