Your analysis of open source is wrong, it isn't free as in beer, its free as in speech. You can sell open source software, you have to supply the source code with it. Plenty of people make money with that model, for you know, food, lodging, medical bills, holidays.... Hollywood still lives "very good" despite people stealing its products. The evidence seems to be that the people who steal it tend to buy a lot too. What's the point of making a film or book, or any kind of endeavour, if you can't make money for your efforts ? What is your objection to it ? There is a description in one of the computing comics of people who haven't thought this "information must be free" thing through properly.
