It will be far cheaper to buy a USB to serial dongle Agree. And a USB-to-Serial adaptor will also be useful for manu other things besides just programming. Aten ... high quality vendor. I wouldn't class Aten as "high quality" - their drivers enumerate as a different COM number depending on which physical USB socket you plug them into. Avoid Bafo and other cheap stuff, their drivers enumerate them as HID. I have a Bafo and I'd agree with you classing it as "cheap stuff" - but the drivers I have do enumerate as COM ports. Best results, for me, seem to come from stuff based on FTDI chips See: http://www.8052.com/forum/read/176460 and following discussions. Note that you can buy FTDI's own converter modules & cables direct from them: http://apple.clickandbuild.com/cnb/shop/...:+TTL-232R also from suppliers like Mouser & Farnell: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDe...dam%2fwe00 http://uk.farnell.com/ftdi/ttl-...dp/1329311 |
