Ah, you're right - I've missed the point!

His problem is that the watchdog is not causing a reset when it "should"!

However, the technique is still applicable - gather info while the app is running, then apply an external reset when it gets into the "hung" state, and examine the info when the system re-starts.

Of course, if he had a device with on-chip debug hardware, he could see immediately where it's hanging...
