You will probably learn a great deal by doing this anyhow, as it will force you to check precisely what each instruction does, what registers (including flags) it affects, etc...

You could save on pencil lead by tabulating it in a spreadsheet or similar program (eg, Excel).

Also, have you drawn a Flowchart of the process, and "simulated" (manually) that process?
