When you pick up code 6 months or maybe 6 years later, you want to know
The one that will benefit most from your comments is yourself. Even just a week later you may wonder "why did I do that", not to mention when your boss comes back after years and say "make this little change, it should take just an hour". Another benefit of commenting is that it makes you see the difference between the comments (what you want) and the code (what you did). Of course when posting in forum, comments are essential, who can say if your code is correct if they do not know what it is supposed to do. The assumption that "if I state that these 100 lines of code are supposed to do x, anybody should be able to help me" is blatantly false Erik |
