They have more than a few years of experience.

It's more likely that's it's a timing issue between the hardware and software.

Why do some LPC764's fail and others don't? .... it's a tolerance issue... your software or hardware
is "on the edge of a threshold parameter".

Eg: IF you are using the internal RC Clock Osc...this has a +- 2.5% tolerance as an example, but there are other parameters that have tolerance.
