#156809 - analog -vs- DSO
Responding to: ???'s previous message
The data stream toggles plus and minus from center ground as expected but I am using a analog Tektronix model 2235 to view the signal. No budget for one of those fancy DSO problem solvers.

My quick eye sees the data stream and the time base is within the 9600 baud time frame. As viewed by the naked eye.

The data bits are seen as square waves with sloped rise and fall edges almost making them triangular.

My null modem cable is shielded and factory built 4' in length.

But pin 5 (ground) is not connected to the shell, pin 5 is grounded at my power supply and the Maxim IC.

The shell is connected to earth ground. Which when connected on my bench means it is not connected to anything. Once the board is in a metal box the shell is grounded to earth ground via a mounting screw that holds the board in place inside the metal box.
