You should check and set the Flow Control Parameter
for Hyperterminal to NONE

9600/8/n/1 means
bits per second: 9600,
data bits: 8,
parity: none,
stop bits: 1


Flow Control: None
means No Handshake Protocol
neither Hardware controlled by CD, RI, RTS, CTS, DTR
neither XON/XOFF controlled by software observing
transmit and receive buffers at both ends.
