I came to the conclusion when I saw that the SiLabs ARMs were in many cases a lot less expensive than their 8051s. SiLabs Prices ? Really ? The cheapest SiLabs ARM shown at Digikey is $3.76/100 in a 40 pin package, whilst their cheapest C8051 is 73c, and Flash is from $1.15+ from SiLabs (and $1.02+ from Zilog) A 40 pin modern Flash part from Atmel is 63.6c @ 4KF and 64.8c # 8KF We have an app that has 3+ 8051 Vendors offering MSOP10 packages, and guess how many ARM vendors ? Yes, Zero. There will be many more ARMs following Stellaris into early retirement. How can a user be sure theirs is not one of them ? Roll that dice.... |
